7-Eleven, ampm Make List of Fastest Growing Franchises

IRVINE, Calif. -- Convenience store franchisees of both 7-Eleven and BP's ampm brand can thank themselves for placing these chains' on Entrepreneur Magazine's list of Fastest-Growing Franchises for 2009.

The list features the 105 franchises that grew the most from 2007 to 2008 based on Entrepreneur's Franchise 500 research. Topping the list this year was Rhode Island-based commercial cleaning service, Jan-Pro International, which ousted quick-service restaurant chain Subway, which landed at No. 2 from the top spot last year.

7-Eleven Inc., based in Dallas and boasting 5,622 U.S. franchises and 27,079 foreign franchises, placed 73rd on the list, falling from its No. 2 spot in 2008.

Meanwhile, BP's ampm convenience store chain moved up the list, making No. 57, up nearly 20 spots from its rank of 76 last year. ampm has 772 U.S. franchises, 1,928 franchises in Canada and 280 foreign franchises. ampm was the only c-store brand owned by an integrated oil and gas company to make the list, BP stated.

"We've been offering hot food and quality gasoline since 1978," Andrew Baird, ampm vice president of marketing, said in a statement. "Over the years, we have developed and refined that offer, focusing on what the customer wants, doing it day and day out, and doing it in a fun way that the customer really gets."
