Wawa Testing At-Store Employee Health Care

PHILADELPHIA -- Wawa Inc. employees who lack the time to visit a doctor may have more opportunities to look after their health through a new pilot program by the convenience store chain that brings doctors directly to the stores, according to a CBS Philadelphia report.

Approximately 30 Wawa stores are now giving employees the chance to schedule "house calls" at work. Radnor, Pa.-based Dr. Rocklan Walker sees patients in the parking lot inside a converted Mercedes passenger van, said Todd Lombardi, director of compensation and benefits for Wawa.

"Many associates have told good stories about the positive outcomes that they've had as result of meeting with Dr Walker, changes they've made to help improve their overall health," said Lombardi.

The visits are part of Wawa's employee wellness plan, so they carry no extra costs for workers.

"It is one of those wonderful intersections between doing something that's fantastic for the associates that also makes wonderful business sense for us," Lombardi added.
