Equal Employment Commission Files Suit Against Allsup's

CLOVIS, N.M. — The Equal Employment Opportunities Commission (EEOC) filed a lawsuit against Allsup’s Convenience Stores Inc., alleging the convenience store retailer failed to make reasonable accommodations for pregnant women with disabilities, a civil rights violation.

According to The Associated Press, the EEOC lawsuit filed Sept. 29 states Allsup’s specifically subjected pregnant women to forced leaves and terminations due to their disabilities, pregnancies, childbirth or related medical conditions.

The EEOC added Allsup’s would not allow for accommodations that would have allowed pregnant employees to continue working during their pregnancies.

The lawsuit was filed after the EEOC could not come to terms on a settlement agreement with Allsup’s, the news outlet reported.

Allsup’s did not immediately respond to a request for a comment from the AP.

Clovis-based Allsup’s Convenience Stores Inc. operates more than 300 c-stores in 160 towns and cities.
