What's In Store: Circle K, Chevron, Love's & Town Pump

NATIONAL REPORT — The convenience store industry landscape is constantly changing as chains open and close stores each week. On a regular basis, Convenience Store News highlights these comings and goings in this special roundup.

Circle K

Circle K opened several convenience stores in July, including newly remodeled stores in Indianapolis, Jeffersonville, Ind., and Louisville, Ky. The revamped c-stores offer new menu items including freshly made burritos, pizza and doughnuts. They also feature Circle K's Polar Pop fountain beverage offering.

Island Energy Services

After acquiring Chevron USA's Hawaii refinery, distribution terminals and retail assets in November, Island Energy Services is converting the 50-plus Chevron-branded gas stations to the Texaco brand. Four Chevron stations in Hilo were changed over in mid-July. One in Waikoloa is slated to carry the new brand in September. 

The Texaco stations will continue to accept Chevron gift cards, credit cards and Safeway rewards points.

Love's Travel Stops & Country Stores

Love's Travel Stops & Country Stores continues to build its footprint across the United States. The retailer opened a new location at the intersection of U.S. Highway 6 and U.S. Highway 50 in Ely, Nev., on June 29. 

The Ely Love's is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week and offers showers, truck parking, gourmet coffee, fresh fruit and vegetables, name-brand snacks, fountain drinks and more. The location also features a Carl's Jr. restaurant. Ely is the company's fourth travel stop in Nevada.

On July 13, the retailer cut the ribbon on two locations: one in West Point, Miss. and one in Circleville, Ohio. 

The West Point store has an Arby's restaurant, five showers and 67 truck-parking spaces. The Circleville store offers an IHOP Express restaurant, seven showers, 101 truck-parking spaces and a Love's Truck Tire Care center. West Point marks Love's 13th location in Mississippi, and Circleville is the company's 12th location in Ohio.

One week later, Love's welcomed customers in a new area of Mississippi at a new location in Magee. The store is located at U.S. Highway 49 and Goodwater Road. Professional drivers can take advantage of 66 truck-parking spaces, five showers, eight diesel fuel pumps and a Love's Truck Tire Care center. The store also features a Hardee's restaurant.

With the addition of the store in Magee, Love's now operates 14 locations in Mississippi and more than 430 locations across the United States.

Sendik's Food Markets 

Sendik's Food Markets is developing a small-format store near Marquette University in Milwaukee. The 4,800-square-foot store will feature healthy snacks, single-serve meals and Sendik's signature fresh produce. It will be similar to the retailer's Fresh2Go stores. 

The location will also feature Sendik's Express, its online ordering and curbside pick-up service. The store will open during the upcoming school year.

Town Pump

Missoula, Mont., is home to Town Pump's 100th convenience stores. The c-store at the corner of Brooks Street and Stephens Avenue offers a one-stop shop for wine, beer, snacks and gas. 

TravelCenters of America LLC

TravelCenters of America LLC (TA) purchased the Petro Travel Plaza in Portage, Wis. Brothers Jim and Greg Goetz are selling the business and the land to the travel center company after 31 years of ownership. TA is the franchise owner of all Petro stations.

The store will continue to carry the Petro banner and retain its service center for travelers, truck services, and the Iron Skillet, Dairy Queen and Subway restaurants. The 20,000-sqaure-foot main building features showers, laundry facilities, a movie theater, game room and chapel.
