West Virginia C-stores, Grocers Raise $200,000 for Make-A-Wish

CHARLESTON, W. Va. – Members of the West Virginia Oil Marketers and Grocers Association (OMEGA) have generated nearly $202,000 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation since August, according to a report by WVMetroNews.com.

During the month of August, more than 1,000 of the association's member stores sold Wish Stars for $1. A check for the money raised was recently presented to the Make-A-Wish Foundation in Kanawha County, the report stated. OMEGA represents convenience stores, independent grocers and petroleum marketers throughout the state.

"West Virginians are so generous," Jan Vineyard with OMEGA said on MetroNews Talkline. "This is 59 wishes that will go throughout West Virginia." Vineyard said in the report the money will be used to grant wishes for terminally ill children.

"Oftentimes, it's something very simple. I met a family the other day whose son wanted a computer because he was bed ridden and that was such a joy to him," she said in the report.

OMEGA first became involved with the Make-A-Wish Foundation in 2003.
