Weird But True: Escaped Bees Swarm Kentucky Truckstop

REIDLAND, Ky. -- This story is sure to create a lot of buzz. A swarm of honeybees slated for pollination escaped from a vehicle at the Southern Pride Truck Stop on August 26.

The bees, which were being transported from North Dakota to Florida, congregated on concrete posts at the truck stop, reported WPSD-TV in Paducah. The TV station posted video of the event on its website.

Alan Watkins, who has worked at a tire repair shop neighboring the truck stop for five years, told the TV station he saw about a "million bees" and described the situation as "comical."

People were "swatting and getting stung," he added.

According to officials, a beekeeper returned a short time after the "great escape" and rounded up as many bees as possible.
