Wawa Goes to Washington, D.C.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Wawa Inc. is looking to welcome customers in another market: the nation's capital.

Next month, the convenience retailer will host an event at Newseum in Washington, D.C., according to the Washington Business Journal

The event is "for the real estate and development community and local officials where we will unveil our plans for the first Wawa store in Washington, D.C., including a special design, store location, renderings, with remarks from Wawa leadership and more," company spokeswoman Lori Bruce said in an email to the news outlet.

Wawa currently operates convenience stores in markets surrounding Washington, D.C., including locations in Virginia and Maryland. It opened its first c-store in Virginia's Fairfax County in 2015, and its first store in Virginia's Loudon County is currently rising in Sterling. It will open this summer.

Another report by DCist.com said Wawa plans to open 11 convenience stores in the district, with the first located at 1111 19th Street NW. The stores will be a mix of gas and non-gas locations.

Pennsylvania-based Wawa operates more than 750 convenience retail stores, 510 offering gasoline, in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia and Florida.
