VERC Honored for Offering Opportunities to Developmentally Challenged

DUXBURY, ANDOVER, Mass. -- VERC Enterprises, operator of 24 convenience store and Mobil/Gulf fueling stations in eastern Massachusetts and New Hampshire, has been named Employer of the Year by the Point After Club in Lawrence, Mass.

"VERC Enterprises has been so receptive and has made an all-out effort to work with us," said Gerry Langan, Employment Coordinator at the Point After Club, a local community rehabilitation center that offers people with mental illness hope and opportunities to achieve their full potential.

Langan extended special thanks to Gary Hoffman, manager of the VERC Andover Mobil at 309 Lowell Street, for "being so kind and respectful to our member who is employed at that location; we are very appreciative to this wonderful company."

Leo and Paul Vercollone, president/CEO and vice president respectively of VERC Enterprises, in addition to the Point After Club member who is employed by VERC and other VERC staff have been invited to attend the Massachusetts Clubhouse Coalition awards ceremony on April 10th at the State House in Boston. The Vercollones and Employers of the Year from other clubhouses within the Coalition will receive their award during the ceremony.

VERC Enterprises has also been named Employer of the Year by Westwinds Clubhouse in Fitchburg and will be recognized as such at the April 10th State House ceremony.

The Point After Club is one of 32 clubhouses within the Massachusetts Clubhouse Coalition, a non-profit organization committed to helping people with long term mental illness find and secure employment, housing, education, services and support in the community.

Marcia Fowler, commissioner of the Department of Mental Health, State Senator Barry Finegold and other members of the Massachusetts Legislature and Senate are slated to attend the awards ceremony.

VERC Enterprises is widely recognized as a leader in hiring those with intellectual and developmental disabilities. In 2010, Leo and Paul Vercollone received Distinguished Citizen Awards from the Arc of Massachusetts for employing individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities.
