Valero Donates $1.6M to Muscular Dystrophy Research

SAN ANTONIO -- Valero Energy Corp. presented a check for $1.6 million to the Muscular Dystrophy Association during the 44th annual Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon last weekend, according to the San Antonio Business Journal.

The money was raised through the sale of shamrocks at the company’s convenience stores nationwide, and Jeff Truman, Valero’s vice president of regional retail operations, delivered the check to MDA Telethon co-host Jann Carl. The money raised goes toward finding a cure for muscular dystrophy as well as treatment, the report stated. In San Antonio, the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio receives funding from the association.

"Valero has shown a phenomenal level of commitment and dedication to helping further MDA’s lifesaving mission," Jerry Lewis said in the report. "We know we can always count on Valero to help better the lives of people across the country with muscular dystrophy."

In all, $60.5 million was raised for Jerry’s Kids during the telethon from individuals and corporations nationwide.
