U.S. Smokeless Tobacco Co.'s Gary Milano Dies at 56
GREENWICH, Conn. -- U.S. Smokeless Tobacco Co. (USSTC) lost a valuable member of its team when Gary Milano, the senior vice president of sales, passed away after succumbing to an illness.
"Words cannot describe the enormous impact that Gary had on our business and how greatly he will be missed," said Dan Butler, president of USSTC. "Gary had a true passion for our business, our industry and our people. His impact will continue to be felt for years to come."
Milano served USSTC for 30 years in its sales division, spending the last decade as the company's top executive for its sales organization. Milano joined USSTC, then known as United States Tobacco, in 1977 as an entry-level sales representative based in New Jersey. He ascended through the ranks and was promoted to the position of division manager in 1979, and promoted again in 1984 to eastern field sales manager.
In 1987, Milano rose to the position of regional vice president of sales, where he oversaw the Midwestern USSTC field sales office. Later he moved to the company's southeastern regional office, where he served a similar role there. After one year in that position, he secured the position of vice president, overseeing all field sales in 1997.
Known as being dedicated to his family, Milano is survived by his wife Florence, his sons Anthony and Robert and numerous friends and colleagues across the nation.
