Uppy's Chain Expands With ExxonMobil
RICHMOND, Va. -- Uppy's Convenience Stores of Chester, Va., purchased eight stations and five closed or undeveloped sites from ExxonMobil Corp., and acquired 13 other ExxonMobil locations that will continue to be dealer-operated, according to a report in the Richmond (Va.) Times-Dispatch.
The move gives Uppy's owner, Steven Upoff, 24 locations in the Richmond, Va. area, with five stores selling gasoline under the BP, Amoco or ExxonMobil brands.
In addition, Upoff's wholesale distribution business, Southside Oil, signed a deal to supply ExxonMobil fuels to the 21 existing sites.
"This is a huge thing for us," said Uphoff, who opened his first store in 1996. "The industry is changing so significantly that you either get bigger or you get out."
Separately, ExxonMobil sold six locations to Woodfin Oil. The petroleum giant no longer owns stations in the Richmond area.
