Two Assistant Managers to Sue Casey's General
ANKENY, Iowa -- Two former assistant managers for the Casey's General convenience store chain plan to sue the company for failure to pay them overtime wages, the Des Moines Register reported.
Kristina Jones and Kim Marrs, the plaintiffs in the case, said in a statement that they will file a class action lawsuit in U.S. District Court in Sioux City, alleging that Casey's did not pay all assistant managers overtime wages, and violated the Fair Labor Standards Act by "working assistant managers off-the-clock to avoid paying overtime wages," according to the statement quoted by the Register. Jones worked as an assistant manager at several Casey's stores in Des Moines, Iowa, and Marrs worked at two Casey's stores in Missouri.
"I was required to work several hours per week off-the-clock," Jones said in a statement. "Casey's relied heavily on assistant managers to pick up the slack and keep the store running but failed to pay me all of my overtime."
Marrs added that she complained several times to Casey's officials for "not being paid for all of the hours I worked," according to the report.
"We understand a lawsuit was filed in Federal Court yesterday by two former employees in which the claim is made that Casey's failed to properly pay overtime compensation to two or more of its assistant managers," the company said in a statement obtained by CSNews Online. "Casey's denies this claim and intends to vigorously defend itself with respect to this lawsuit. It is Casey's policy to pay all employees for any and all time worked in accordance with federal, state, and local law."
