TravelCenters of America & Petro Stopping Center Send Well Wishes to America’s Wounded Service Men and Women

WESTLAKE, Ohio -- TravelCenters of America and Petro Stopping Centers full-service restaurant guests were invited to select and sign a holiday card for wounded servicemen and servicewomen recuperating at Walter Reed Army Medical Center this past week based on an idea from Anita Darrow, a Petro Iron Skillet restaurant employee in Corning, Calif., the company reported.

Darrow invited guests to sign a card for a wounded soldier she knew, and her idea quickly spread throughout the entire restaurant network, where thousands of employees and guests quickly joined in the effort. More than 5,500 holiday cards will now be sent to the Walter Reed Army Medical Center.

“We are grateful for our brave service men and women who fight for our freedom everyday,” said Tom O’Brien, CEO. “Their selfless giving of themselves to provide the gift of freedom to each of us deserves to be recognized and we thank our guests; professional truck drivers, motorists, adults and children alike, for taking the time to bring a smile to their faces during this holiday season.”

Darrow and all of the staff will be recognized for her caring attitude with a plaque to be proudly displayed inside the Iron Skillet restaurant in Corning, Calif., the company reported.
