Town Pump Adds to Its Portfolio

GREAT FALLS, Mont. -- Town Pump, which operates convenience stores, casinos and motels across the state, is adding to its portfolio with the purchase of six 4B's restaurants, according to a report by the Associated Press.

Town Pump spokeswoman Maureen Kenneally said the company has an agreement to buy three 4B's restaurants in Missoula and one each in Great Falls, Hamilton and Polson, Mont. The sales, initiated by 4B's, haven't been completed yet, she said.

"At this time, we are still considering all the possible options for the property," Kenneally wrote in an e-mail to the Great Falls Tribune. "Currently, we are talking to various restaurant franchises and operators."

The 4B's in Hamilton is already closed, while one of the Missoula locations closed this Monday, and the second was to close Tuesday, as was the restaurant in Polson. It was unclear when the third Missoula restaurant would close.

The 4B's at the Prime Time casino in Great Falls is set to close May 5. The Butte 4B's, which leases a building owned by Town Pump and is located next to the Comfort Inn, also owned by Town Pump, is not renewing its lease effective June 30.

4B's was established in 1947 by Bill Hainline, who named the family-style eatery after his family -- himself; his wife, Barbara; son, Bill Jr., and daughter, Barbara. Today, Bill's grandson, Jeff Hainline, runs the family-owned business, which markets itself as a "Montana family tradition," the Associated Press said.

Another 4B's restaurant in Great Falls and one in Havre will continue to operate. There are also 4B's restaurants in Miles City, Billings and Deer Lodge.
