Thorntons Opens Flex-Fuel Pumps Across Indiana

INDIANAPOLIS – Thorntons Inc. recently opened nine new flex-fuel pumps at its convenience stores in five Indiana counties, offering drivers of flex-fuel vehicles more options when it comes to selecting fuel. The pumps offer both E85 and E30 ethanol-blended fuels, according to a Hoosier Ag Today report.

"We are very excited about the expansion of flex-fuel in our Indiana stores, and adding another fuel option for our customers," said Thorntons President and CEO Matt Thornton. "We support the use of ethanol, wherever it is economically available."

The new pumps are located at the following store locations:

  • 12001 N. US 31 in Edinburgh
  • 6300 Morgan Ave. in Evansville
  • 114 Rosenberger Ave. in Evansville
  • 500 North Burkhardt Road in Evansville
  • 5310 West 10th St. in Indianapolis
  • 10901 Pendleton Pike in Indianapolis
  • 7425 East Washington St. in Indianapolis
  • 2115 Hartford Ave. in Plainfield
  • 665 S. State Road 46 in Terre Haute

The Kentucky-based convenience store chain is one of seven companies to participate in the Indiana Corn Marketing Council's (ICMC) new Flex Fuel Pump Program. Launched last year and funded by corn checkoff dollars, the program awards cost-share dollars to Indiana retailers that want to install flex-fuel pumps. It has awarded 21 grants for stations to install flex-fuel pumps so far.

"Hoosier corn farmers believe consumers should have choices at the gas pump when filling up their vehicles, and we are excited to be partnering with Thorntons to bring mid-level ethanol blends to drivers across our state at nine different stations," said Mike Shuter, ICMC president and a farmer from Frankton, Ind. "The Flex Fuel Pump Program is designed to improve the access to ethanol-blended fuels for Hoosier drivers across the state so they can take advantage of the potential cost benefits of ethanol, while using an environmentally-friendly, renewable American-made fuel."
