Tennessee Retailers Rush To Sell Lottery
NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Convenience stores, grocery stores and other retailers are rushing to apply with the Tennessee Education Lottery Corp. to sell lottery tickets ? with the number of retailers topping 1,600 so far, according to KnoxNews.
"We're really pleased with what we received so far," said Kym Gerlock, spokeswoman for the lottery. The lottery has started the approval process, including criminal and credit checks, and hopes to start announcing retailers next month, Gerlock reported in KnoxNews.
Officials expect between 3,000 and 4,000 applications before the ticket sales begin, and retailers will receive a commission of at least 6.5 percent of the lottery's gross sales in their stores, according to the report.
The lottery corporation plans to begin selling tickets in February, and to participate, retailers must be current on all state taxes, and must be devoid of a criminal record relating to "security and integrity," of the lottery, the report stated.
