SuperAmerica Sets End Date for Double Coupon Fuel Promo

WOODBURY, Minn. — SuperAmerica LLC will put an end to its double coupon program on Tuesdays.

According to the Minneapolis StarTribune, Woodbury-based SuperAmerica, one of Western Refining Inc.’s retail divisions, will no longer double its own and competitors’ cents-off-per-gallons promotions on Tuesdays as of Sept. 1. This means customers will only be able to earn double coupon discounts twice more on Aug. 23 and Aug. 30.

SuperAmerica has had this promotion in place since May 2011.

SuperAmerica will continue to accept competitor coupons for their face value as of Sept. 1. It will also double the number of My SA Rewards loyalty points earned when buying gasoline on Tuesdays.

“We weren’t seeing the results that we needed,” Gary Hanson, a spokesman for Western Refining, told the news outlet. “It’s just part of the regular analysis of our business. It went its course, and it was time for us to make a change.”

SuperAmerica has placed signs on its gas pumps notifying customers of the change in the Tuesday program.

“Notice to our customers: Effective 9/1/16, we will no longer double the value of fuel coupons on Tuesdays. Currently available at participating locations. You will now earn double My SA Rewards loyalty points on select grades of fuel on Tuesdays. You can still save everyday on your fuel purchase with your My SA Rewards Card,” the sign reads.

Tempe, Ariz.-based Western Refining Inc., which merged with Northern Tier Energy LP on June 23, owns approximately 170 SuperAmerica convenience stores in Minnesota and Wisconsin, as well as supports 99 franchised locations. It also has 230 c-stores under the Giant, Mustang, Sundial and Howdy’s brands in the Southwest.
