Sunoco Refining Exec Steps Down

PHILADELPHIA -- Sunoco Inc.'s executive vice president of refining and supply, Joel H. Maness, stepped down from his position, effective yesterday to assume a new part-time role as a strategic advisor on refining and supply issues for the company.

In his new role, Maness will report directly to John G. Drosdick, the chairman, chief executive and president of the company. Maness' resignation comes from his desire to spend more time with his family and on personal interests, the company stated.

"We have benefited greatly from Joel's leadership and dedication over the past seven years. I am pleased that we have worked out an arrangement that will allow him more personal time while he remains available to us to continue providing his extraordinary industry knowledge and expertise in support of our long-term strategy," Drosdick said in a written statement.

As a result, Michael J. Hennigan, senior vice president of supply, trading, sales and transportation, along with Vincent J. Kelley, senior vice president of refining, will report to Drosdick.

Maness joined Sunoco in May 2000, according to an Associated Press report. Prior to that, he spent 27 years managing oil refineries for Mobil Corp.
