Smitty's Paradise Finds Success with Technology at the Pump

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Smitty's Paradise of West Richland, Wash., installed Gilbarco's Applause Media system when it opened in July 2008, according to Rod Smith, treasurer at R.H. Smith Distributing Co. Inc., which operates eight convenience stores under the Smitty's name in eastern Washington State. Since then, the location has seen sales increases resulting from the most recent upgrade to audio and video, the company reported.
"Since deploying the new audio/video release of the Applause system in June, we have seen tremendous results," Smith said in a released statement. "Our monthly non-fuel sales have increased more than 15 percent, with video promotions and couponing at the pump driving customers inside the store for additional purchases."
Users of the Applause Media System have access to audio and video content libraries, and a portal containing libraries of ready-to-use promotions, artwork and tips for effective digital merchandising. They can also customize clips from most any digital media, the company reported.
"Applause and the large color screens have been a great investment," said Smith. "We see the results every day as our fueling customers come inside the store or visit our car wash, and the system continues to get better and better as Gilbarco continues to introduce new features."
Gilbarco Veeder-Root will exhibit the Applause Media System at the NACS Show, Las Vegas Convention Center, Oct. 20-23, Booth 5572.
