Sinclair Cleans Up

FAIRFAX, Va. -- ExxonMobil Research and Engineering Co. (EMRE) announced yesterday that Salt Lake City-based Sinclair Oil Corp. has selected EMRE's proprietary SCANfining gasoline sulfur reduction process to be applied at its Tulsa, Okla. refinery.

The refinery joins an extensive list of refineries where this process has been selected in order to meet new stringent gasoline specifications.

Sinclair will use this proven technology to satisfy its Tulsa refinery's current needs for gasoline sulfur reduction and to provide the flexibility required to meet future needs.

ExxonMobil refineries and EMRE licensee facilities have successfully demonstrated this flexible technology. The SCANfining process selectively removes sulfur while minimizing octane loss. The Sinclair unit will have the capacity to process approximately 16,000 barrels per day, the companies said.
