Shop24 Global Signs Pact for College Housing Sites

MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- College students can experience the conveniences of home, thanks to their campus homes having an onsite, self-serve convenience store.

Shop24 Global LLC automated convenience stores entered into a non-exclusive agreement with EdR, one of the nation's largest developers, owners and managers of collegiate housing, to build c-stores on select EdR properties. Trial locations will be installed at The Commons on Kinnear in Columbus, Ohio, and East Edge in Tuscaloosa, Ala., according to a release by EdR.

"Shop24 gives our residents easy access to an abundance of products anytime, day or night," said Scott Casey, EdR’s senior vice president of strategic business development and chief technology officer. "Offering a unique solution of this nature is considered an important amenity for our residents."

Shop24 c-stores are self-service, stand-alone facilities that dispense a variety of products from snacks to health and beauty care products, such as aspirin and razors. The refrigerated stores are accessible 24/7 and offer more than 200 items ranging in weight from 1 ounce to 10 pounds in a well-lit, security-camera-monitored environment, according to the company.

“EdR’s communities represent the best-in-class for private collegiate housing at universities across the country,” said Matt McGovern, CEO of Shop24 Global. “The Shop24 automated convenience store will be a welcome addition for students at these communities, providing unparalleled selection and convenience in a ‘non-traditional’ convenience store format, the fastest-growing segment of the convenience store market according to [NACS, the Association of Convenience & Fuel Retailing].”
