Sheetz Opens Fifth Store With Drive-Thru

ALTOONA, Pa. -- Sheetz Inc. opened its fifth location with a drive-thru window in Woodstock, Va.. The store opened last week adjacent to an older store that was demolished. Customers may order anything except alcohol, lottery tickets and money orders from the window.

The new store is 6,000 square feet, much larger than the 3,900-square-foot store it replaced, according to a report by NVdaily.com. Along with the drive-thru window, the store features a walk-in beer cooler and indoor seating.

The drive-thru was added to the site after plans for a car wash were jettisoned because of spacing issues, according to the report.

Additional Sheetz stores in the Shenandoah Valley will be rebuilt to the same model, said Allen Stevens, a real estate site selector for the company.

In other Sheetz news, Dan Marino, Wayne Gretzky, Bo Jackson, Joe Theismann and Dennis Rodman led the list of celebrities participating in the 13th annual Sheetz Family Charities "For the Kidz" Golf Classic, held today at the Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio. Also playing in the event for charity were Pittsburgh Steelers Jack Ham, Mel Blount, Mike Wagner and L.C. Greenwood.

The annual event is a major fundraising effort for the Sheetz Family Charities, benefitting the company’s Christmas program for needy children who are identified with the help of the Salvation Army. Last year, the golf event raised more than $380,000 and was used to brighten Christmas for more than 6,200 children.

Sheetz Family Charities also is supported throughout the year by Sheetz in-store donations, proceeds from Sheetz bottled water sales and other efforts. In 2010, Sheetz raised more than $900,000 for charity.

"With the support of our vendor partners who participate in the golf event, and through the generosity of our great customers year-round, Sheetz Family Charities provides funding for programs that enrich the lives of thousands of children every year in the greater Akron area and across the six states where we have store locations," said President and CEO Stan Sheetz. "Including the proceeds from our golf event, we anticipate that we will raise more than $400,000 for charity in 2011."

Hundreds of Sheetz employees across six states work with their local Salvation Army chapters to identify children who may need some help to have any Christmas at all. "This is one way our employees can truly make a difference in their own communities," Sheetz added. "For us it’s about sharing the love with those in need."
