Sheetz Earns 13th Year as Best Place to Work in PA

ALTOONA, Pa. — Sheetz Inc. was named one of the 2014 Best Places to Work in Pennsylvania, marking the retailer's 13th consecutive year on this list. The Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development and Team Pennsylvania Foundation sponsor the annual awards program, which debuted in 2000.

The numeric list of winners will be announced Dec. 4 at the Lancaster County Convention Center.

The statewide survey and awards program is meant to identify, recognize and honor the best places of employment in Pennsylvania, benefiting the state's economy, workforce and businesses, according to the announcement.

This year's Best Places to Work in Pennsylvania slate consists of 50 companies on the small/medium-sized list (25 to 250 U.S. employees) and 50 companies on the large-sized list (251-plus employees).

Companies must fulfill these eligibility requirements to be considered:

  • Be a for-profit or not-for-profit business;
  • Have at least 25 employees working in Pennsylvania;
  • Be a publicly or privately held business;
  • Have a facility in the state of Pennsylvania; and
  • Be in business a minimum of one year.

Companies from across the state participate in a two-part process to determine the Best Places to Work in Pennsylvania. First, nominated companies' workplace policies, practices, philosophies, systems and demographics are evaluated for approximately 25 percent of the total score. Next, employee surveys to measure the employee experience are conducted for approximately 75 percent of the total evaluation. The combined scores determine the top companies and final rankings.

Altoona-based Sheetz Inc. operates more than 470 convenience stores throughout six states: Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Ohio and North Carolina.
