Royal Farms to Open in New College Park Student Housing Complex

COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Royal Farms, the 136-unit convenience store chain based in Baltimore, will open a store in the street level of a new luxury student housing complex here called “The Varsity.”

The new store will be the first Royal Farms to open in the area. The store will be open 24-hours a day and will offer take-out breakfast sandwiches, subs, wraps, and fresh brewed coffee. The store will also feature Royal Farms signature take-out chicken, according to The Varsity’s Web site.

"We thought this was a great opportunity to have a presence on a college campus," said Ed Stronski, spokesperson for Royal Farms.

Both The Varsity and the Royal Farms store will open in August of 2011.

Construction is underway on the 901-bed property that is located adjacent to the University of Maryland campus on Baltimore Avenue. The complex will offer 20,000 square feet of retail space on the ground level, covered parking for retail customers and residents, and a fitness center, business center and game room for students.

The project, developed by Potomac Holdings Development and Campus Suites, is one of the largest new student housing projects in the country and will bring upscale, luxury housing to the College Park market, which currently is experiencing a student housing shortage.

The project was financed in conjunction with Bank of America, US Bank, and the University of Maryland Foundation.
