R.H. Foster's Newest Prototype Reflects Fresh Shift

ELLSWORTH, Maine — R.H. Foster Energy's new Foster's On The Run prototype convenience store in Ellsworth focuses on freshness. The location opened July 21 and includes a gas station and a Freshies deli and offers healthy smoothies, quality food and more, reported the Ellsworth American.

"This store is the first pilot of this quantum shift that we're making within our company," Executive Vice-President Robert Tracy told the news outlet.

Available foodservice options include smoothies made with ingredients such as kale, goji berries and flax seeds; both grab-and-go and made-to-order sandwiches and salads; breakfast sandwiches; whoopie pies; and pizza with toppings such as fig, prosciutto, brie and spinach along with standard ingredients.

"Our focus is going to be fresh, healthy food," said Robert Foster, president of R.H. Foster, noting the company is aware that more customers are seeking out healthier fare but can have difficulty finding it on the go. R.H. Foster wants to make that easier for consumers.

The 4,179-square-foot store replaced a 954-square-foot store that was torn down earlier in 2016. The upgraded location features a large beer cave and indoor bathrooms, unlike the old store. Decoration includes a large photo of the area's Union River.

The company plans to use the prototype store as a model for future store replacements and renovations, starting with a location in Bangor, Maine, in the fall.

R.H. Foster has 21 Foster On The Run c-stores in Maine.
