Redner's Celebrates 40th Anniversary

READING, Pa. -- Redner's Markets Inc. is commemorating its 40th anniversary this month with a series of promotions for customers that have loyally supported the regional retailer's convenience stores, warehouse markets and pharmacies over the years.

Having grown to become Pennsylvania's largest employee- and family-owned grocer, the Reading, Pa.-based company is giving customers a chance to win $100 gift cards, which will be randomly awarded to 400 entrants this month. Entry forms are being issued on each receipt received and upon request at the office of each store.

Redner's was formed on March 1, 1970, when company founders Earl and Mary Redner placed their savings and faith into Earl's dream of opening his own grocery store. Forty years and 53 stores later, that purchase of two failing stores has blossomed into a successful family-, employee- and locally owned company. Redner's is helmed today by a third generation of family members, including Earl's son, president/CEO Richard, and grandchildren Ryan, the company's COO, and Gary, its EVP/procurement.

"What my father and mother began in 1970 was a huge venture, and they put their life savings into my father's dream of independent ownership," Richard Redner stated. "To be where we are today, as a successful, employee-owned and independent company, says a lot to his vision in 1970 and continued leadership. We have made it 40 years in a tough business and were only able to do so through dedicated employees, disciplined buying operations and taking care of our customers. Without our customers, we would not be here, and in celebration of our 40th, we felt it was necessary to give back to them."

Additionally, Redner's, which operates 13 Quick Shoppes and 38 Warehouse Markets throughout eastern Pennsylvania, Maryland and Delaware, said it remains committed to supporting the communities where its stores are located through a variety of partnerships and enrichment programs.
