Public Media Rolls Out Movie and Game Kiosks at C-stores

SAUSALITO, Calif. -- In the first of an ongoing program for ConocoPhillips-branded retailers and other convenience store operators, Steve Speckman, the owner of a recently converted c-store in Los Angeles, will soon offer movie DVDs and games via a new kiosk program.

Public Media Works Inc. and its wholly owned subsidiary, EntertainmentXpress Inc., are working with ConocoPhilips and Modular Conversions to place up to 7,000 kiosks in new convenience stores as major oil company-sponsored gas station conversions are completed over the next three years across the United States. The initial phase includes full funding for the installation of up to 1,500 EntertainmentXpress kiosks in prime West Coast locations.

"We are in conversation with several major oil brands about converting high-traffic gasoline stations to c-stores where EntertainmentXpress kiosks are part of the program," added Jack Neal, the COO of Modular Conversions. "We have also made arrangements for full financing for kiosks to be placed in existing convenience store locations for gas stations and other non-oil company convenience stores."

Speckman believes the DVD movie and game entertainment kiosk will be well received by his current customers and draw new customers too. "You can't beat it," said the 76-branded operator. "I will get a share of the revenue from DVD rental and sales and from advertising that is placed on the 3D kiosk screen. My expectation is that the kiosk will bring in a higher gross profit than any other center in my store. Plus it gives my customer base a pleasant and convenient experience."
