Petro-Canada Starts Gasoline Blog

Petro-Canada, based in Mississauga, Ontario, has a new way to talk with motorists about gasoline pricing and fuel efficiency.

Its Pumptalk.ca.blog, written by Petro-Canada employees, builds on a series of online videos the petroleum marketer developed last year to answer some common questions about gasoline prices. Featuring Petro-Canada employees, the videos have been viewed nearly 40,000 times on YouTube.

"We were pleased with the response to the videos, but learned from user feedback that our approach needed to be more informal and interactive," said Jon Hamilton, director of downstream communications. "So, we've created an online forum where motorists can find reliable, straightforward information, ask questions and engage in discussions."

The blog will feature employee-authored posts focused on gasoline pricing, fuel efficiency and how the retail gasoline and refining sectors work. There also will be links to information on fuel-saving tips, employee-developed videos and relevant content from other sources.

"Petro-Canada has recognized the importance of investing in a forum where users can share their ideas and experiences with other motorists," Hamilton said. "We understand the discussion may get heated at times, but feel it is important to participate in any discussion related to gasoline prices and how we consume the product."
