NEW YORK -- The board of directors for Imperial Oil Ltd. appointed B.H. "Bruce" March to the position of president, effective Jan. 1, 2008. March was also elected a director of the company.
March comes to the position from his role as director of refining for Europe/Africa/Middle East with ExxonMobil Petroleum & Chemical BVBA, located in Brussels, Belgium and an affiliate of ExxonMobil Corp.
March, a native of Middleport, N.Y., is a graduate of the Rochester Institute of Technology. He joined Mobil Oil as a project engineer in 1980, and served in various divisions, including refining, supply, environment, health and safety.
March was named production manager at the Beaumont Refinery in 1993, and was appointed to the role of manager of production trading for Europe in Mobil's supply transportation area in 1997. Later, he became a senior adviser of operations with ExxonMobil's global refining and supply company, and in 2003, he was promoted to the position of manager for the Baton Rouge Refinery. Last year, March was appointed to the position of project executive for a Middle East Gas to Liquids project with ExxonMobil's development company, before being appointed to his most recent postion earlier this year.
In other people news, Bruce F. Larson, president of Oscar W. Larson Co., located in Clarkston, Mich., was elected president of the Petroleum Equipment Institute (PEI).
Larson has been a PEI board member for two terms, and comes to the position from his role as vice president in 2007, and treasurer for the prior term.
Larson was elected during the institute's annual convention at the NACS Show, which was held in November at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta.
"Bruce has been an active advocate for the Petroleum Equipment Institute and its activities for many years and, as such, will make a great president," Robert Renkes, PEI's executive vice president, said in a statement.
Larson has also served on PEI's Safety Committee and Contract Committee. He is a member of the Republic 10-Group and is a past president of the Detroit Oilmen's Club and a member of the Airline Pilots Association, the Michigan Petroleum Association's ad hoc UST Committee and the state of Michigan ad hoc Hydrogen Handling and Storage Committee.
In other people news, Stephen Williams -- the president and majority owner of A.T. Williams Oil Co., located in Winston-Salem, N.C. -- was elected to the board of directors for BB&T Corp.
"We can only benefit as a board from Steve's business acumen, leadership and work ethic," BB&T chairman and chief executive officer John Allison said in a statement. "His dedication and long-standing affiliation and knowledge of our company will make Steve a tremendous asset."
Williams, who also serves as president of WilcoHess LLC, a joint venture between A.T. Williams and Hess Corp., oversees the daily operations of a 348-unit chain of gas stations and convenience stores, restaurants and travel centers across Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, Virginia, Pennsylvania and the Carolinas.
"We've been BB&T customers -- both the Williams family and WilcoHess -- since BB&T merged with Southern National Bank in 1995," Williams said in a statement. "We value our relationship with BB&T and have always admired the leadership of the bank. It is an honor and a privilege to serve on the board of one of the leading financial institutions in the United States."
Williams previously served on BB&T's local advisory board for Winston-Salem, N.C. He is also a board member of the Winston-Salem Alliance, Winston-Salem Business Inc. and Wake Forest University Health Sciences.
In other people news, Marathon Oil Corp. selected Stephen J. Landry, currently director of tax, compliance and reporting for the company, to succeed James F. Meara, vice president of tax, who will retire effective Dec. 31, 2007, after more than 25 years of service.
Meara joined Marathon in 1980 as a tax analyst. In 1988, he was promoted to manager of tax audit systems and planning, and in 1995, he was named commercial director of Sakhalin Energy, located in Moscow. Then, in 2000, Meara was appointed to the position of controller, later to be appointed to vice president of tax in January 2002.
Landry joined Marathon in January 2007 in his current position. Prior to this position, he spent 22 years with Ernst and Young.
In other people news, Mike Lowe has joined executive search firm Executive Leadership Solutions as a senior executive recruiter.
Lowe came to the position from The Pantry Inc., where he served in several vice president positions from 1998 to 2007. Before that, he worked for Stallings Oil Co., located in Rocky Mount, N.C. There, he held numerous positions including Travel Center general manager, Travel Center division president, and operations vice-president. In 1998, Lowe joined The Pantry when it purchased Stallings Oil Co.
