FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Kangaroo Express is inviting members of the Fayetteville community to personalize the company's new military-themed store at 5642 Bragg Blvd. Personalized features include an in-store "Wall of Honor" that will regularly recognize local service members, and an exterior military appreciation mural.
Cpl. Cody Stanton was recognized as the first "Wall of Honor" honoree during a special ceremony at the store on March 12. Stanton deployed with 21st MP Company, 503rd MP BN, 16th MP Brigade, from Fort Bragg, N.C., in November 2011 to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, according to the announcement. A Purple Heart recipient, Stanton sustained injuries that included the amputation of both his legs while training with Afghan Police outside Kandahar, Afghanistan, when an improvised explosive device detonated in January 2012.
"The Wall of Honor is a reflection of Kangaroo Express' deep pride and admiration for local service members," stated Paul Stoner, regional sales director for Kangaroo Express. "Our hope is that store guests who see this wall will take a moment to reflect on the sacrifices and celebrate the accomplishments of these local heroes, starting with Cpl. Stanton."
Local artists will be able to enter a contest for the chance to design the exterior mural. Artists in the Fayetteville area who are interested in personalizing the military appreciation mural on one of the store's exterior walls are invited to visit www.kangarooexpress.com/MuralContest to view dimension requirements and submit their concept sketches. Entries must be submitted by March 31, and a contest winner will be selected on April 30.
