MAP Develops Online Buying Club

Marathon Ashland Petroleum LLC (MAP) has combined forces with Consolidated Buying Company (CBC) to jointly develop and provide an Internet-based buying club program for the Marathon brand marketing network.

The club, "eMpowered Buying by Marathon" was developed to provide buying benefits and rebates collection services for a full range of products and services to members for their convenience store, petroleum marketing and car wash operations.

The companies plan to introduce the buying club during the fourth quarter.

"This represents a significant step forward in using the Internet to leverage the purchasing power of our brand marketers -- especially our single-site entrepreneurs -- and is another of the ways that we are delivering on our commitment to provide our customers with leading edge business solutions," said Mary Ellen Peters, MAP's senior vice president of marketing. "MAP views eMpowered Buying as an opportunity for Marathon brand customers to reduce underlying expenses and grow top line revenue streams through enhanced merchandising opportunities."

MAP owns and operates more than 2,500 stores and maintains a dealer and jobber network of 6,000 units in 21 states.
