Mac's Helps Tackle Crime

LAVAL, Quebec -- Mac's Convenience Stores are taking part in a "positive ticket" program being launched by the York Regional Police and the Herbert H. Carnegie Future Aces Foundation.

The program, which was piloted in Whitchurch-Stouffville in September, is designed to recognize young people spotted demonstrating positive behavior and good decision-making skills. The youths are given a ticket that includes certificates for Mac's stores, McDonald's and Reptilia reptile haven, Yorkregion.com reported.

The Future Aces Foundation's vision is to see all police forces follow the York department's lead, according to Bernie Carnegie, the foundation's executive director. The involvement of the York police in youth mentoring has yielded a significant drop in street crime traditionally committed by young people, according to the report.

"Success is achieved not only by the police, but by our community partners as well," Chief Armand La Barge said in a statement. "York Regional Police stands with the Herbert H. Carnegie Future Aces Foundation in their efforts to assist today's youth."
