Love's Travel Stop Opens in Record Time

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. -- The newly opened Love's Travel Stop here was built in record time, according to a report in the North Platte Bulletin, citing construction superintendent Steve Swink.

The travel center opened Thursday, and was built in 120 days, erasing Swink's old record of 128 days, he said. Officially, construction began Aug. 3, and as of Dec. 4, all that was left to complete were a few finishing touches on doors, glass and electrical fixtures, and a sign or two, according to the report.

The site features a McDonald's restaurant, which will open Dec. 18, the report stated. Other amenities include convenience store items, a Subway restaurant and trucking supplies.

The store's motto is "clean places-friendly faces," making it a nice place to work, the site's assistant manager Tom Nearman said in the report.

Swink specializes in building the travel stops, and Love's plans to build 25 more travel stops in the U.S. during 2010.

"They've got it right," Swink said. "build while labor is less, while materials are less. I've seen the costs cut from $5-6 million to $3.5 million."
