Kwik Trip to Get NCR DVD Kiosks

NEW YORK -- NCR Corp. (NCR) won a contract to place its DVD rental kiosks in nearly 500 Kwik Trip Inc. convenience store locations across its markets of Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin, Dow Jones Newswires reported.

The kiosks, which are licensed under the Blockbuster Express brand, will begin to appear in Kwik Trip stores beginning next month, according to the report.

NCR Entertainment President Alex Camara told the news agency NCR currently has just under 5,000 self-serve rental kiosks and "so far, everything's going OK" as the company aims to reach 10,000 by the end of 2010.

Camara also confirmed the company plans to begin selling DVDs, rather than just renting them, at its kiosks this summer. However, the company hasn't yet signed any agreements with movie studios to date, the report stated.

"We've got the technology down, we've got the capabilities to do this," Camara said, adding studios are "very interested."

Camara also confirmed that NCR is in discussions with studios to rent new-release DVDs for $2 per day, double its current rate and that of competitor Redbox Automated Retail, a unit of Coinstar Inc., according to the report.
