Kum & Go Continues to Champion Biofuels

DES MOINES, Iowa -- Kum & Go and the Iowa Corn Growers Association offered flex-fuel vehicle owners the opportunity to save even more money on gas yesterday in celebration of this weekend's Iowa Corn Indy 250 race in Newton, Iowa.

RadioIowa.com reported that select Kum and Go stores offered E85 at $1.85 a gallon from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., while several other stations also sold E85 at 85 cents below their posted price. Eighteen of the 61 stations in Iowa that sell E85 were offering big discounts, according to Shannon Textor, director of market development for the Iowa Corn Promotion Board, a sponsor of the Iowa Corn Indy 250.

"The discount of 85 cents off is a great deal as well, because right now, E85 is selling for anywhere from $2.39 to $2.49 (a gallon) across the state," Textor said.

The Iowa Corn Indy 250 will run this Sunday at the Iowa Speedway, and will feature Indy cars running on 100 percent ethanol, according to RadioIowa.com.

As previously reported by CSNews Online, Kum & Go was recently honored by the Iowa Renewable Fuels Association (IRFA) for being a pioneer in the biofuel industry by adding a biodiesel blend to 28 of its retail locations in the state.

The chain also has offered E85 to customers for a decade, and has five sites in Iowa that sell the blend. Within the next year, that number is expected to double.
