Kum & Go to Build Larger Prototype Store

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa — Kum & Go LC's next prototype store will be bigger and offer more features than ever before, according to a Des Moines Register report.

The 6,000-square-foot Kum & Go Marketplace will replace an older Kum & Go at 5225 N.W. 86th St. in Johnston, Iowa, and include a patio and expanded food preparation area when it opens at the end of the year.

The existing convenience store will be razed before construction of its replacement, which is double the size. Kum & Go is combining two lots to build the new store, but the site on which it is built will not allow the company to build adjacent to the old store before tearing it down, as it has done with other store replacements in the area.

"The store will not be in operation from approximately August until late in the year when we reopen," stated Kum & Go spokeswoman Kristie Bell. "There is another Kum & Go nearby at the corner of 86th and Northwest 62nd [Avenue] that we're hoping customers will find as a convenient alternative."

All new Kum & Go stores will be built in the style of the new prototype, Bell added.

"We have a few stores in the Des Moines metro that are slated for rebuilds with the Marketplace design in the next year, but we are still working on approvals and don't have any specifics right now," she said.
