Jiffy Mart Staff Gets CPR Certified

WESTMINSTER, Md. -- You never know when it will be needed, but Jiffy Mart convenience store team members will be prepared in the event a customer or fellow associate is in need of emergency assistance. Twenty-four Jiffy Mart Team members were recently certified in first aid and CPR through the American Red Cross.

"We started with 24 team members, but we are planning to certify additional associates later this year," said general manager Tom Moser. "The Jiffy Mart Team recommends the training course for someone in each family and at each place of business."

There are four Jiffy Mart locations in Carroll County, Md., which are owned by Tevis Oil, Inc. -- two in Westminster, one in Hampstead and one in Finksburg. In addition to being the hometown convenience stores, each location is supplied with an automated external defibrillator (AED) and a person who has been trained to use it. Dwayne Cover, Jiffy Mart's business manager said, "I hope we don't have to use it, but if we do, we'll be there for our customers."

Statistics show that more than 200,000 Americans die of sudden cardiac arrest every year. Up to 50,000 of these deaths could have been prevented if someone had initiated the Cardiac Chain of Survival, and an automated external defibrillator (AED) had been available for immediate use at the time of emergency.
