Jacksons Adds 1,000-Plus Employees in Past Year

MERIDIAN, Idaho — Jacksons Food Stores has experienced a growth spurt over the past 12 months.

The convenience store retailer built up its portfolio with a 15-store acquisition from Premium Oil Co. in Utah. The deal also includes a commercial real estate portfolio, according to the Idaho Statesman

Premium Oil was founded by Paul Q. Callister, along with investors Jack Vincent, Fred C. Staines and the Bamberger Group, during America’s service station boom years of 1925-1932. In its 85 years of operation, the company evolved from cleaning windshields, properly inflating tires, adding distilled water to batteries, checking the oil and the other countless free services of the 1930s, to full-service repair shops in the 1960s, to the introduction of snack foods in the 1980s, and eventually evolving into Premium neighborhood convenience stores, according to the company's website.

Jacksons has already begun to rebrand, remodel and expand the acquired stores to its standard.

In the past year, Jacksons Food Stores also has seen its employee count jump by more than 1,000 associates. To accommodate the growth, the retailer is expanding its home office in Meridian by 50 percent. In total, it's adding 34,000 square feet, the news outlet reported.

Jacksons Food Stores has grown from a single service station in Idaho in 1975 to 228 company-operated convenience stores in Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, Arizona and Utah. Its sister company, Jackson Oil, provides wholesale branded fuel to 854 locations in nine Western states.
