By W.B. King

PORTSMOUTH, N.H. -- On Friday, Irving Oil announced it purchased eight retail locations from the Greenfield, Mass.-based Rice Oil Co.

Irving Oil spokesperson Trodson told CSNews Online the sites owned and operated by Irving have been rebranded with the blue and red Irving logo. "As of June 19 the stations were fully integrated," he said.

When asked how long the deal was on the table, Trodson said: "It's our policy not to comment on negotiations between two private companies." In regards to the company's future acquisition plans, Trodson told CSNews Online, "We are always looking to grow the business but we do not comment on specifics or rumors about growing the business."

The deal brings the total chain store count to 153, explained Trodson. The rebranded sites are located in Keene, N.H.; Greenfield, Deerfield and Whately, Mass.; and Brattleboro, Westminster, Dummerston and Ascutney, Vt. All the sites have new Irving signage.

"We are very proud to have the opportunity to introduce quality Irving products at these sites, and we want to publicly thank the Rice family for this excellent opportunity. Working so closely with them has been a gratifying experience," Harry Hadiaris, director of business to consumer operations for Irving Oil, said in a released statement. "These locations have been owned and operated with integrity, and Irving will continue that strong commitment to customer service and satisfaction."

Rice Oil was founded in 1951 as a home heating oil and gasoline business by Meldon F. Rice.

"Irving has the same values, the same commitment to serving local customers that we have always had, and so we are very pleased to have Irving be the new owners of these sites," Timothy Rice, president of Rice Oil Co., said in a released statement. "It has been a pleasure to work with them throughout this process, and I know that the customers Rice Oil has come to know and appreciate over the years are in the best of hands."
