Industry Continues Relief Support

HOUSTON -- CITGO Petroleum Corp. president and CEO Félix Rodríguez announced the company has pledged an additional $1 million toward Hurricane Katrina relief efforts, bringing the total so far pledged by the company to $2 million.

“CITGO employees are actively participating in relief efforts in those cities where the company has a presence and evacuees are being received,” Rodriguez said. “We continue to monitor the situation and stand ready to help in every way we can.”

The additional funds will be used to help with relief efforts in cities such as Houston and Corpus Christi, Texas, and Lake Charles and Baton Rouge, La., he noted.

Rodríguez made the announcement at a press conference in Chicago and reaffirmed the commitment while attending the Muscular Dystrophy Association's Annual Telethon in Los Angeles this weekend.

Meanwhile, Circle K Stores Inc. across the country will participate in the relief effort by offering for sale rubber bracelets that have an engraved UNITE for KATRINA RELIEF at the stores for $2 each with 100 percent of the proceeds being donated to the Red Cross Katrina Relief Fund. Circle K anticipates raising more than $4.5 million from the sales of the bracelets, which will be arriving at the stores starting September 13. Novelty Inc. based in Greenfield, Ind., will supply all campaign elements.
