NEW YORK – Back for a the second year, Gulf Oil will host "Gulf Day at Shea," Gulf marketing program coordinator Leigh Cavanaugh told CSNews Online, adding the event caters to the needs of homeless, autistic and neglected children.

In total, four not-for-profit organizations -- Little Flower Children, New Haven Police Athletic League, Navigating the Spectrum, and Beat the Streets -- will join more than 100 regional children at Shea Stadium for a baseball clinic led by the Major League Baseball’s Mets players and coaches.

Cavanaugh told CSNews Online each child participating in the clinic will receive two tickets to the Mets game that same afternoon versus the Houston Astros.

"Gulf is extremely excited to be giving back to the community," Cavanaugh told CSNews Online. "These kids are given an opportunity to interact with major league players and attend a game at Shea Stadium which is a first time experience for many."

In addition to the clinic participants, Cavanaugh said Gulf Oil will host 30 children from the New York Foundling Organization (serving abandoned children) with tickets to the game.

Along with giving the first 25,000 fans promotional Mets t-shirts, Cavanaugh said Gulf's RoadTrip’n Squad will be on the main concourse with a Lucky Gulf Wheel where fans will be invited to spin the wheel to win prizes, including Mets coolers, CD car visor holders, and Mets baseball hats.

"Last year the event was successful but on a smaller scale and the only downfall was the rain," Cavanaugh told CSNews Online. "This year there has been a lot of interest especially with the participation of the not-for-profits."
