ExxonMobil Continues Hispanic Heritage Youth Awards Sponsorship

DALLAS -- The ExxonMobil Foundation -- the primary philanthropic arm of the ExxonMobil Corp. in the U.S. -- announced its continued support of the Hispanic Heritage Youth Awards (HHYA) in sponsoring the Engineering and Mathematics category and contributing $225,000 to the organization.

ExxonMobil has been the sponsor of this category for seven years, and has contributed more than $1 million to HHYA to date. The company began supporting the HHYA in 2001 and has enabled more than 144 regional Engineering and Mathematics winners to pursue their dream of higher education.

"ExxonMobil recognizes the urgent need to produce more students -- particularly minorities and women -- graduating with math and science-related degrees," said Rex Tillerson, chairman and CEO, ExxonMobil Corp. "We remain committed to supporting and actively participating in programs like HHYA that encourages students to become our nation's future leaders in engineering and mathematics."

The Engineering & Mathematics award and other Hispanic Heritage Youth Awards are presented to graduating Hispanic high school seniors during April and May. Award recipients are chosen by regional selection committees based on academic achievement, community service, category focus and an essay about the important role their heritage played in their success.

A total of 300 Regional Youth Award recipients will be honored and receive educational grants based on their medallion level -- Gold, Silver and Bronze Medallions -- during special ceremonies throughout 12 regions. The regions include Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, Phoenix, Los Angeles, San Diego, Northern California, Phoenix, Chicago, Miami, New York, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C.

One National Youth Award winner will be chosen from the pool of regional winners in each category and will receive an additional educational grant, a laptop computer, a trip to the National Youth Award presentation in Boulder, Colo., and to the national Hispanic Heritage Awards ceremony in Washington, D.C.

To help address the nation’s math and science crisis, ExxonMobil also supports programs and organizations, such as the National Math and Science Initiative (NMSI) that focus on improvements in these areas from pre-school through higher education.
