ExxonMobil Community Summer Jobs Program Extends Honors

DALLAS -- To mark the conclusion of the 19th year of the ExxonMobil Community Summer Jobs Program, Fine Arts Chamber Players and Tulane University student Tobin Fulton were honored Tuesday during an awards ceremony and dinner.

Along with receiving their awards for Agency of the Year and Intern of the Year, Fine Arts Chamber Players and Fulton each received a check for $1,000 from Exxon.

"It is always a pleasure to honor the deserving recipients of the Agency of the Year and Intern of the Year awards. Fine Arts Chamber Players and Tobin Fulton represent the culmination of a summer of hard work and passion, and we are proud to support their continued efforts in our community," Robert Lanyon, manager of corporate citizenship and community investments for ExxonMobil, said in statement.

"We are also very proud of the accomplishments of all 75 interns that participated this summer in the program. It’s not every day you come across a group of young people who are actively investing in their communities. These 75 college students not only exceeded their supervisors’ expectations this summer, but they showed a passion for expanding their personal horizons," Lanyon continued.

Fine Arts Chamber Players was chosen by the judging panel for consistently providing an excellent internship with plenty of hands-on experience, while Fulton was selected because he demonstrated great passion for creating a "greener" organization and went above and beyond his internship duties, leaving a lasting mark on the Jubilee Park and Community Center. Fulton will use his $1,000 scholarship for educational expenses when he returns to Tulane University this fall, according to ExxonMobil.

Since the ExxonMobil Community Summer Jobs Program began in 1971 in New York, ExxonMobil has provided more than $9.3 million to support 4,300 community summer job internships. Today, it is active in 10 states, including Alabama, Alaska, California, Kansas, Louisiana, Montana, Oklahoma, Texas, Virginia and Wyoming.

The Dallas ExxonMobil Community Summer Jobs Program is the largest in the country, the company noted. The program provides full-time undergraduate college students with an eight-week, paid internship at a nonprofit organization. It supports selected agencies during peak summer months and encourages nonprofit service among students. ExxonMobil provides more than $267,000 to cover intern salaries and the Volunteer Center of North Texas’ program administration expenses.
