Duval Evans Dies

Arthur Duval Evans, a convenience store and petroleum industry pioneer and president of Evans Oil Co., died at his home June 4. He was 69.

Duval began his career in 1959 as a commissioned agent for Standard Oil of Kentucky. By age 26 he began selling gasoline to farmers and fishermen from a Chevron processing plant in Ochopee, Fla.

The Evans family moved from Ochopee to Naples in 1975, where Evans expanded his business to include a fuel processing plant and the company's first gas stations and convenience stores. In 1982 Evans Oil joined the Florida Petroleum Marketers Association, of which he was a member until his retirement in April.

Duval is survived by his wife Lois; two daughters, Ruthann Scheller and Marie Weinberger; and five grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Cancer Society, 1599 Clifton Road, N.E., Atlanta, Ga. 30329; or Hospice of Naples, 1095 Whippoorwill Lane, Naples, Fla. 34105.
