Cumberland Farms Partners to Fight Breast Cancer

By W.B. King

CANTON, Mass. -- Cumberland Farms is partnering with the American Cancer Society’s New England division on a month-long fundraiser across Massachusetts to support the Society’s "Making Strides Against Breast Cancer" program.

"Cumberland Farms’ partnership with the American Cancer Society reaches back 16 years, when Cumberland Farms began contributing to the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer annual walk," Cumberland Farms-Gulf CEO Joe Petrowski told CSNews Online.

In 1999, Cumberland Farms took its support one step further and added product donations with a company matching program. "This year they’ve not only doubled the team of walkers from the company, but stepped up again to a greater sponsorship level and will be engaging the consumer too by selling pink ribbon placards for a $1 donation at the register," Petrowski told CSNews Online.

The walk is scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 5, in Boston. Beginning Oct. 5, consumers can purchase the pink ribbon placards at any Cumberland Farms store, where all proceeds will be donated to Making Strides Against Breast Cancer throughout October.

Donald Gudaitis, chief executive officer of the American Cancer Society’s New England Division said Cumberland Farms’ has been an instrumental partner for more than 10 years. "It gives me great pleasure that this partnership continues today, and as a local fixture in our communities they are going above and beyond to help contribute in the fight against breast cancer," Gudaitis told CSNews Online.
