CSNews Forecast Study Tracks Key Industry Trends

NEW YORK -- What does the future hold for convenience store and petroleum retailers? The Convenience Store News Industry Forecast Study promises to serve as a roadmap and guide for the coming year.

With the convenience store channel under increased pressure from other retail channels, CSNews commissioned Ernst & Young to conduct its second annual Forecast Study.

Using data from a variety of sources, including partners ACNielsen, Trade Dimensions and Claritas, CSNews created 12-month forecasts for c-store total retail sales, store counts, gross margins, motor fuel sales and volume, cigarette sales and volume and other key category statistics.

Other data and analysis partners for this year's study, sponsored by Anheuser-Busch and Altadis, include McLane Co. Inc., Deutsche Bank and a Forecast Council made up of leading industry retailers.

For a preview of the 2004 Industry Forecast Study, Convenience Store News and ACNielsen will host a series of breakfasts in December where the industry can sample the data and exchange ideas and insights with other industry players about the direction of the convenience store and petroleum industry. Breakfasts will be held in:
* New York, Dec. 8
* Chicago, Dec. 9
* Dallas, Dec. 10
* Atlanta, Dec. 11

The full study will be published in the Jan 12, 2004 issue of Convenience Store News.
