Coen Oil Grows C-store Footprint Through Acquisitions

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Coen Oil Co. is showing its commitment to its retail convenience store line with the recent purchase of six Kwik King locations in the Steubenville, Ohio, area; storefronts in Brilliant and McMurray, Pa.; and Ashbridge Oil Co.'s seven-store chain in Maryland and Pennsylvania.

According to a report by the Weirton Daily Times, the purchases were made possible through Coen Oil's 2011 acquisitions from Zappi Oil Co., which company officials said has benefited the fuel distribution side of their business.

"The Zappi acquisition was an important strategic move for our company. … Importantly, our retail platform helps service our commercial fuel customers," said Andy McIlvaine, Coen Oil president, to the news outlet. "Coen Commerical customers, including fuel drillers, can use our stores for gas, diesel ad off-road fuel, as well as choose from several products we offer inside our stores including food, beverages and household/personal care products."

The Kwik King locations were purchased from John and Rita Riley, who spent the past 25 years building the brand. The full-service convenience stores offer a selection of hot and cold foods, beverages, snacks, beer and wine, tobacco and household and personal care products. Two stores are located in Toronto, and one each in Steubenville, Weirton, Wintersville and Follansbee. Catered food and state-of-the art gasoline pumps are also featured at some Kwik King locations.

In addition, the properties Coen acquired in Brilliant and McMurray are set to be remodeled, and both are slated to open in April.

Coen Oil Co. now oversees 31 stores in four states: Pennsylvania, Ohio West, West Virginia, and Maryland.
