Children's Miracle Network Recognized for Efforts

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The Children's Miracle Network's Champions Across America Program -- which honors remarkable children who have triumphed despite severe medical challenges with the opportunity to share their story -- got the opportunity to speak with leaders at Capitol Hill this week.

As a measure of their remarkable personalities despite the challenges presented to them, the children were selected to represent the 17 million children treated each year at Children's Miracle Network children's hospitals through the Champions Across America program, which is presented by financial services company CO-OP Financial Services.

As a part of the program, the children traveled to Washington, D.C. and The White House on March 28 to April 5 to tell the nation's leaders that their lives are better because of children's hospitals.

During one day of their trip, the children met with members of Congress on Capitol Hill. More than 50 members of the House and Senate joined the children and their families for lunch. Then, they met President Bush in the East Room of the White House, where the children and the president took pictures to commemorate the event. The president welcomed the guests and thanked them for their courage.

The next day, the group told the story of the Children's Miracle Network on television and radio with Miss America 2007 Lauren Nelson and country music artist Richie McDonald.

They will also spread the word by participating in the national television production of the Children's Miracle Network Celebration at Walt Disney World.
