Chevron Awards $10,000 for Scholarships

SAN RAMON, Calif. -- Chevron Corp. presented a $10,000 check to Midland College (MC) for its Energy Technology Program, MyWestTexas.com reported.

The program provides training in the electrical and mechanical aspects of the installation, operation and maintenance of complex automated systems used in petroleum exploration and drilling, wind energy and other renewable energy industries.

Chevron Production Operations Recruiter Janeen McGill interviewed students for internships as field specialists when the check was presented this past week, and the corporation plans to hire 35 interns -- 15 from the Midland-Odessa area, she said in the report.

This is the second year Chevron awarded $10,000 for energy technology scholarships to MC.

MC Dean of Business Studies Gavin Frantz reported there are approximately 110 MC students enrolled in energy technology classes in Midland and Fort Stockton -- 30 of them in dual-credit high school courses, where they are earning both high school and college credit, according to the report.

In addition to college courses, Chevron is partnering with MC through a Skills Development Grant to train incumbent workers through MC's Continuing Education program.
