C-store Operators Rank Among Global Retail Leaders

NATIONAL REPORT — Convenience store chains are in good company among the leading global retailers.

According to Retail Leader, a Convenience Store News sister publication, several c-store retailers rank among its RL 100 — a list of the world's most significant companies operating in the retail industry. The rankings are based on annual revenue.

The ranking is based on a company's total revenue, rather than the subset of retail sales, because it provides the broadest view of a company's overall performance which impacts retail competitiveness.

Appearing on the latest RL 100 are Kroger, which operates several c-sore banners including Kwik Shop, Loaf 'N Jug, Tom Thumb and Turkey Hill ($115.3 million in revenue in 2016); Seven & i Holdings, parent company of 7-Eleven Inc. ($53 million); Alimentation Couche-Tard Inc. ($34.1 million); CST Brands Inc. ($11.1 million); Giant Eagle, operator of GetGo convenience stores ($9.5 million); Army & Air Force Exchange Service ($8.5 million); and Casey's General Stores Inc. ($7.5 million).
